Seven-year-old Daniel Abanil has always dreamed of being an engineer.

His mother, Ana Lisa Abanil, encouraged him to think big and motivates him to value his education. "We encourage him to study hard, and use his talents," she said. "I remind him to always be thankful for the chance of being able to study, since our income is enough only for food everyday."

Daniel is a first grade student at Tomas Cabili Central School in Iligan City, Mindanao. An ELSA scholar, he is also one of the many recipients of uniforms, shoes, books and other school materials. "I'm happy, and I enjoy going to class. Math is my favorite subject," Daniel said. Currently, he is at the top of his class and is active in sports. "I want to be an engineer when I grow up," he shared enthusiastically.

"We are very thankful for the support given to us," said Ana Lisa about the scholarship for her son. "For us parents, this is an opportunity to realize our dream of seeing our child finish school."

ELSA provides scholarships and educational assistance to hundreds of students from low-income families. ELSA's scholarship program is designed to increase the participation rates of students and decrease the number of drop-outs.
